"Wineland’s fresh interpretations of traditional motifs from many of the world’s indigenous cultures have found a wide and appreciative audience among collectors and connoisseurs across the country."
We have worked with the Zapotec Indians of Oaxaca, Mexico, for more than 30 years to develop this unique line of indigenous textiles. Because we use apparel quality merino wool in our blankets, they are surprisingly soft to the touch, yet durable enough to last a lifetime. Our high quality, handmade, wool blankets and rugs give contemporary expression to rich artisan traditions dating back thousands of years. Remnants of Zapotec blankets were found as early as 800 A.D. in the Southwest among the Pueblo Indians.
Notice the vibrancy and depth of color in the images below of Michael Wineland's blankets. In our products, you will also find our collection of wool rugs which reflect the same attention to indigenous design, quality and durability. We are proud to support commerce with the Zapotec artisans of Oaxaca and to share their remarkable story. When you buy from Indigenous Textiles, you support their long-standing traditions and keep their legacy alive. Thank you!
